How to Use a Miter Saw to Cut Baseboard and Moldings39

A miter saw is a versatile power tool that can be used to cut a variety of angles, including 45-degree angles for picture frames and baseboards and 90-degree angles for crown molding and other trim work. If you're new to using a miter saw, don't worry—it's a relatively easy tool to operate. Just follow these steps and you'll be able to cut perfect miters every time.

1. Gather your materialsIn addition to your miter saw, you'll need the following materials:
* Baseboard or molding
* Miter saw blade
* Measuring tape or ruler
* Pencil
* Safety glasses
* Dust mask

2. Set up your miter sawThe first step is to set up your miter saw. Make sure that the saw is on a stable surface and that the blade is sharp. If you're not sure how to sharpen a miter saw blade, refer to your saw's owner's manual.
Once the saw is set up, adjust the miter angle to 45 degrees. To do this, loosen the miter angle lock knob and rotate the miter arm until the desired angle is reached. Then, tighten the miter angle lock knob.
Next, adjust the bevel angle to 0 degrees. To do this, loosen the bevel angle lock knob and rotate the bevel arm until the desired angle is reached. Then, tighten the bevel angle lock knob.

3. Measure and mark the baseboard or moldingUse a measuring tape or ruler to measure and mark the length of the baseboard or molding that you need to cut. Then, use a pencil to mark the cut line on the baseboard or molding.

4. Position the baseboard or molding on the miter sawPlace the baseboard or molding on the miter saw table with the cut line aligned with the saw blade. Make sure that the baseboard or molding is securely held in place.

5. Cut the baseboard or moldingSlowly lower the saw blade onto the baseboard or molding and cut through the material. Be sure to keep your fingers clear of the saw blade.

6. Repeat steps 3-5 to cut the other miterOnce you have cut the first miter, measure and mark the length of the second piece of baseboard or molding that you need to cut. Then, use a pencil to mark the cut line on the baseboard or molding.
Position the baseboard or molding on the miter saw table with the cut line aligned with the saw blade. Make sure that the baseboard or molding is securely held in place.
Slowly lower the saw blade onto the baseboard or molding and cut through the material. Be sure to keep your fingers clear of the saw blade.

7. Assemble the mitered jointOnce you have cut both miters, you can assemble the joint. Apply a small amount of wood glue to the mitered edges of the baseboard or molding. Then, press the two pieces together and hold them in place until the glue dries.
