How to Install Cabinet Edge Banding222

Cabinet edge banding is a thin strip of material that is applied to the exposed edges of plywood or MDF. It gives cabinets a more finished look and provides a barrier against moisture and wear. Edge banding can be made from a variety of materials, including wood, metal, plastic, and vinyl.

There are two main ways to install cabinet edge banding: using an iron-on adhesive or using a contact cement. In this article, we will show you how to install cabinet edge banding using an iron-on adhesive.

Materials You Will Need
Cabinet edge banding
Iron
Ironing board
Measuring tape
Pencil
Scissors
Utility knife
Sandpaper

Instructions
Measure the length of the edge that you want to band. Cut a piece of edge banding to the desired length.
Apply a thin layer of iron-on adhesive to the back of the edge banding. Use a brush or roller to apply the adhesive evenly.
Place the edge banding on the edge of the cabinet. Align the edge banding with the edge of the cabinet and press it down firmly.
Cover the edge banding with a clean cloth. Use an iron to press the edge banding onto the cabinet. Hold the iron in place for a few seconds and then move it slowly along the edge of the cabinet.
Allow the edge banding to cool. Once the edge banding is cool, use a sharp utility knife to trim away any excess material.
Sand the edge banding smooth. Use a fine-grit sandpaper to sand the edge banding smooth.

Tips
If you are using a contact cement to install the edge banding, be sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions carefully.
