How to Apply Engineered Wood Veneer Edge Banding74

Engineered wood veneer edge banding is a popular choice for furniture makers due to its durability, affordability, and ease of use. It is made from a thin layer of real wood that is bonded to a substrate, such as particleboard or MDF. This makes it more flexible and easier to apply than solid wood edge banding.

To apply engineered wood veneer edge banding, you will need the following tools and materials:
Engineered wood veneer edge banding
Contact cement
Edge banding trimmer
Sandpaper
Tack cloth
Measuring tape
Pencil

Once you have gathered your tools and materials, you can begin the process of applying the edge banding.
Measure and cut the edge banding. Measure the length of the edge that you need to cover and cut the edge banding to that length. Be sure to add an extra inch or two to each end so that you have enough to wrap around the corners.
Apply contact cement to the edge of the substrate. Using a brush or roller, apply a thin, even layer of contact cement to the edge of the substrate. Be sure to apply the glue to the entire surface of the edge, including the top, bottom, and sides.
Apply the edge banding to the substrate. Once the contact cement has been applied, carefully align the edge banding with the edge of the substrate and press it into place. Be sure to apply even pressure along the entire length of the edge banding.
Trim the edge banding. Once the edge banding has been applied, use an edge banding trimmer to trim the excess material from the top and bottom of the edge banding. Be sure to trim the edge banding flush with the surface of the substrate.
Sand the edge banding. Once the edge banding has been trimmed, use sandpaper to smooth the edges and remove any rough spots. Be sure to sand in the direction of the grain.
Wipe the edge banding with a tack cloth. Use a tack cloth to remove any dust or debris from the edge banding. This will help to ensure that the finish adheres properly.

Once you have followed these steps, the engineered wood veneer edge banding will be applied to your substrate. The edge banding will help to protect the substrate from damage and give it a finished look.
